New Board Member Profile - Rocky Abell PDF Print E-mail

Rocky was born and still resides in Pocomoke, Maryland approximately five miles north of the Maryland Virginia State Line on the Eastern Shore.

His father had a grocery/general store in Pocomoke. Rocky was always around the feed business. As a five to six year old boy, one of his earliest memories and favorite pastimes was playing on and sitting atop an old mixer truck with his little Springer Spaniel dog. This came about because his father rented a metal building out to a gentleman who used to make feed for local farmers and stored, bagged ingredients and finished feed in the metal building out behind the store.

Rocky graduated from Pocomoke High School and later the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a B.S. in Biology. He married his high school sweetheart, Joanne, and had three sons. He started out working for one of the poultry companies on the shore where he served as the Lab Supervisor, Safety Director, Director of Feed and Grain Division. He had a real desire to get involved in sales and ended up going to work for a millwork company called Randolph-Bundy in Norfolk, VA. servicing the Eastern Shore accounts. He had an opportunity to return to the feed industry in 1992 by accepting a territory manager sales position with Coronet Industries, the manufacturer of CDP, Feed Grade Phosphate. After almost one hundred years in business, Coronet closed its doors in 2004.

Rocky then took a sales position at Venture Milling, part of Perdue Agribusiness, where he now works out of the Salisbury office. He enjoys traveling and seeing his friends/customers. He is currently President of the Carolina Feed Industry Association, which serves North and South Carolina. Rocky looks forward to serving and working on behalf of the Virginia State Feed Association as a board member.

Welcome aboard Rocky!
